As we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of McLennan Community College, we stand at a dynamic crossroads: the intersection of a notable and distinguished past, and the road to an even greater future. Over the past four decades, as we have served the students and communities of Central Texas, the College has become an integral part of thousands of lives. Through its diverse range of programs, MCC has changed lives by offering students a first-rate education and the opportunity to move on to greater success. Countless numbers of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members have given great effort toward making MCC a model of excellence in junior college education. And now with new expansions on the horizon, the future shines brighter than ever.

In the MCC tradition of community service, and as a thank you for 40 years of support, we invite you to join us in celebrating this important milestone anniversary at three exciting events: The Distinguished Lecture Series presentation by Robert B. Reich, Bluegrass on the Bosque with renowned musician Ricky Skaggs, and the unveiling of the 40th Anniversary History Book.

We hope you will enjoy celebrating the many accomplishments of your community college.

Known affectionately today as bluegrass music's official ambassador, eleven-time Grammy Award-winner Ricky Skaggs will bring his famous bluegrass to the Bosque this spring. By age 21, Skaggs was already considered a recognized master of bluegrass music. By the 1980s, his career had taken him in other directions, catapulting him to popularity and success in the mainstream of country music. With the 1981 release of Waitin' for the Sun to Shine, Skaggs moved to the top of the country charts. He earned a spot in Billboard's Top 20 artists of the decade and top 100 of the past 50 years. Twenty-four of his singles made Billboard's Top 20 list, and 12 were No. 1s. Now the road has brought him back to where it all began, and Skaggs is back to focusing on country music in its most down-to-earth form, bluegrass.
