Highlander Baseball Assistant Coach - Josh Scott

Josh Scott begins his first year as assistant baseball coach at MCC after spending last year as a volunteer assistant at the University of New Mexico.
Scott graduated from Warren High School in Downey, Calif., where he was a member of the baseball and water polo teams and received the Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award in 1997. He played baseball at Baylor University from 1998-2001, earning Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American honors in 1998 and All-Region honors at the Waco Regional in 1999 and the Rice Regional in 2001. While playing for the Bears, he was a three-year member of the Big XII Commissioner's Honor Roll.
After graduating from Baylor, Scott began his coaching career as the junior varsity coach at Artesia High School in California in 2002 before moving to Downey and leading the Downey junior varsity high school team to the San Gabriel Valley league championship in 2003.
Scott joined the Angelo State University coaching staff as a pitching coach in 2004. His pitching staff boasted the lowest ERA in the Lone Star Conference in 2005 and 2006, and the 2006 squad captured the conference championship. He coached eight All-Conference pitchers and the 2006 Co-Pitcher of the Year while at Angelo State.
The last four summers, Scott has served as a pitching coach in several collegiate-level summer leagues. Most recently he coached the Edenton Steamers in the Costal Plain League. His pitching staff recorded the lowest team ERA in the league and broke the team record for wins as the squad won both the first and second half division championships. He was the assistant coach for the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod League in 2006 and helped guide them to the Western Division title. In 2005, Scott led the Newport Gulls of the New England league to a championship; in 2004, he coached the Harrisonburg Turks to a division crown in the Shenandoah Valley League.
In his short coaching career, Scott has had 18 pitchers drafted into the major leagues.
