Men's Basketball Assisant Coach - Larren Silver

Larren Silver begins his third year as assistant men's basketball coach at MCC. In his short tenure, he has helped lead the Highlanders to finish atop the conference standings, as champions in 2005-06 and co-champions in 2006-07.
A Waco native, Silver graduated from Reicher Catholic High School. During his playing career there, he recorded 2,028 points and 1,013 rebounds and was named first team All-State.
Silver began his college career at MCC, red-shirting in 1995-96 before playing at New Mexico Junior College and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. He holds the school record in career free throw percentage at both NMJC and UMHB. During his two years at UMHB, Silver was twice named both NAIA/NCAA first team All-Conference for the American Southwest Conference and All-Southern Region.
After graduating from Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2000, Silver coached junior high, freshman, junior varsity and varsity basketball at his alma mater Reicher for two years and then served as head coach for the Saltillo Lobos, a top professional team in Mexico. Silver was also an assistant coach at Midland College for one year, helping the team finish in the final eight of the NJCAA National Tournament, before returning to his hometown in the summer of 2005.
Silver earned his master's degree in Spanish from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 2006. He and his wife, Kera, have two sons: Colsen, 3, and Keller, born April 28, 2007.
