Men's Basketball Assisant Coach - Larren Silver

Larren Silver begins his fifth year as assistant men's basketball coach at MCC. Since joining the staff in 2005, he has helped lead the Highlanders to two conference championships, a regional tournament appearance each season and an overall record of 94-31. Silver’s duties include on-floor coaching, individual improvement of post players, recruiting, coordinating travel, academic advising, scouting, coordinating video and game-day warm-up activities. He has helped many of his players complete their degrees and receive scholarships to a variety of universities nationwide.

A Waco native, Silver graduated from Reicher Catholic High School in 1995. During his playing career there, he recorded 2,028 points and 1,013 rebounds. He averaged 29.7 points per game as a senior and was named first-team all-state.

Silver began his college career at MCC, redshirting in 1995-96 before playing at Hill College, New Mexico Junior College and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where he holds the school record in career free-throw percentage. During his two years at UMHB, Silver was twice named to the NAIA/NCAA American Southwest Conference first team and All-Southern Region team.

After graduating from Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2000, Silver coached junior high, freshman, junior varsity and varsity basketball for two years at his alma mater, Reicher Catholic High School. He also served as head coach for the Saltillo Lobos, a top professional team in Mexico, in the summer of 2003. Silver then took an assistant coach position at Midland College for one year, helping the team finish in the final eight of the NJCAA National Tournament, before returning to his hometown in 2005.

Silver is a member of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and is a Fellowship of Christian Athletes campus leader. He earned his master's degree in Spanish from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 2006. He and his wife, Kera, have two sons: Colsen, 5, and Keller, 2.
