Men's Basketball Coach - Kevin Gill

In the last two years, Kevin Gill has led the Highlanders to back-to-back titles, NTJCAC Champions in 2006 and Co-Champions in 2007. This accomplishment garnered him individual honors as well, being named the conference Coach of the Year in '06 and Co-Coach of the Year in '07.

However, success is no stranger to Gill. In the six years that he has been the men's basketball coach at MCC, the Highlanders have lost just seven home games.

The Highlanders are 117-41 under Gill's watch, and MCC has twice advanced to the semifinals of the Region V postseason tournament. He has seen 17 players named all-conference and last season coached the NTJCAC Defensive Player of the Year Eric Bell and Freshman of the Year Walt Harris. His '06 squad featured NTJCAC Player of the Year Marvin Gentry and Freshman of the Year Marlon Vincent. Gentry, who now plays for the University of Cincinnati, was also the Co-Freshman of the Year in 2005.

Gill came to MCC from Waco's LaVega High School. In three years at his alma mater, Gill led the Pirates to a 92-11 record and a state championship for the first time in the school's history. Prior to LaVega, Gill was head coach at Hubbard High School, where the Jaguars advanced to the state playoffs for the first time in 10 years and compiled a 25-7 record. Under Gill, Hubbard notched a three-year mark of 75-22. In his six years as a high school coach, he compiled a record of 167-33.

Gill began his coaching career in 1993 at Lake Air Middle School in Waco and then was an assistant at LaVega for two years before moving to Hubbard.

Gill graduated from LaVega in 1985 and from Paul Quinn College in 1990. In 1998, he earned his master's degree from Prairie View A&M.

Gill and his wife, Suzette, a teacher and coach at LaVega High School, are the parents of two daughters: Chelsi, 12, and Kobi, 9.
