Women's Basketball Assistant Coach - Kristy Hughes

Kristy Hughes begins her second year as assistant women’s basketball coach at MCC. Last year, she helped guide the Highlassies to a third-place finish in the conference and a regional tournament berth.
Prior to coming to MCC, Hughes spent seven years as an assistant girls' basketball and track coach and a physical education teacher at Cedar Park High School outside of Austin. In 2009, she helped coach the varsity squad to the first district championship in school history. Her junior varsity squad posted a 26-3 record, won the district championship, finished third at two varsity-level tournaments and won the Cedar Park Sub-Varsity Tournament Championship. Hughes was selected to coach in the 2009 Dennis Johnson Memorial High School Girls’ All-Star Classic.
Before taking the position at Cedar Park, Hughes served as a graduate assistant coach and taught physical activity courses at Tarleton State University.
Hughes has spent her summers working at basketball camps across the state, most recently with coach Kim Mulkey at Baylor University. She also spent time as a sales associate for several sporting goods retailers.
Hughes received her Bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Angelo State University in 2000 and a master's degree in physical education from Tarleton in 2001. She has dedicated her coaching career to her parents, who passed away recently.
