Artist Carlos Nichols | Politics, Reformation, and the
Birth of the Anglican Communion: A Guide to the Players
Guest Scenic Artist Carlos Nicholls
Carlos Nicholls was born in Pereira, Colombia. He received
his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Wittenberg University
in 1985 and also studied as a guest student at the School
of Visual Arts in New York. Owner of Nicholls Design Studio,
he is a freelance artist, designer, scenic painter, and muralist.
He has worked as an artist/designer for Fundacion Gente de
Teatro in Bogota, Colombia; Spectrum Studios in Los Angeles;
and the Wolf Company in Dallas. He has exhibited his work
through one-man exhibits in Colombia and in Dallas and has
participated in group shows in Colombia, Texas, Ohio and California.

Nicholls’
public art commissions include the following steel sculptures:
“La Bohemia” for Urbanización La Bohemia
in Pereira, “El Lancero” for Museo de Arte de
Pereira, “El Vigia” for Edificio Panorama in Pereira,
“El Conquistador” for Edificio Conquistador in
Pereira, “Colombia” for Edificio Cañaveral
in Pereira, and “Colombia Toda Tuya” commemorating
the visit of Pope John Paul II to Pereira and located at the
Matacaña International Airport, Pereira.
His murals include “Under Water” for the emergency
room at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Ft. Worth,
"Sky Mural" for the Neiman Marcus Store Facade at
Ridgemar Mall in Fort Worth, "Festa D' Italia" for
the Neiman Marcus Flagship Store in Dallas, and "Desert
Murals and Stylized Sky" for The Palace AMC Movie Theatre,
Sundance Square in Fort Worth. His scene design and painting
includes work for “Bloomingdales on Broadway,”
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Noises Off
in Dallas, and A Christmas Carol and Carousel in Denton. His
most recent project can be seen in Enchanted April at the
Water Tower Theatre in Dallas. We are pleased to welcome Mr.
Nicholls to Waco as a master class teacher in scene painting
on campus, April 11-21, 2005.
