English As A Second Language
Welcome to the study of English as a Second Language (ESL). MCC’s ESL courses are listed under the heading of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). Our ESOL courses are designed to help all students whose first language is not English to develop better English writing skills for better academic, personal, and professional success.
Mission
The mission of the English as a Second Language (ESOL) component of the Department of English at McLennan Community College is to provide developmental level reading, writing, listening, and speaking training to our multi-cultural student body. Because the English Department endorses the Institution’s policy of open admissions, ESOL courses have been created to enable students to succeed in their educational, professional, and personal goals. To accomplish our mission, the ESOL courses focus on the following goals:
- ESOL 0300: Academically oriented listening/speaking and reading/writing at the Intermediate level of English proficiency.
- ESOL 0301: Academically oriented listening/speaking and reading/writing at the advanced level of English proficiency.
Facilities
The Writing Center in SC 222 offers free assistance for students in all MCC classes, especially reading and writing courses.
