Admission Criteria
Admission criteria are subject to change. It is the student's responsibility to remain current with admission requirements. Applications are ranked by using the point system below.
Although VNSG 1420 is no longer offered (it has been replaced with biology courses), applicants who have taken VNSG 1420 as a pre-requisite course will have that course grandfathered in as their first science course.
Must choose one of the following: BIOL 1406 or BIOL 1407 or BIOL 1408 or BIOL 2404 or CHEM 1405 or CHEM 1407 or CHEM 1411.
AND complete ALL of the following: BIOL 2401, BIOL 2402 and PSYC 2301.
Please note:
- Anatomy and Physiology I and II must not be older than five years at the time the student is accepted into the nursing program.
- Applicants who apply for the program should take HPRS 1206 – Medical Terminology (or HPRS 1101 and HPRS 1106). A computer course taken prior to Fall 2009 can be substituted for HPRS 1206.
- There will be two concurrent day programs.

Total number of credits completed in academic courses for the ADN Program at time of application deadline as identified in column to left. If all pre-/co-requisite courses as identified on the ADN degree plan have been completed (33-35 semester hours), the following scale will apply to the point system: 4.0 GPA = 3 points 3.0-3.9 GPA = 2 points 2.8-2.9 GPA = 1 point If the student has not completed all academic and pre-/co-requisite courses, no points will be awarded in this section. |
*Points are determined at the admission application deadline, and only those courses that have been completed by this date will determine the points.

Re-admission policy
Due to the inter-relationship of nursing courses taught each semester, if a withdrawal from one nursing course is necessary, the student must withdraw from all nursing courses.
To be eligible for re-admission, a student must:
- Meet the minimum requirements for entry into the program
- Complete the Nursing Admission Test
- Have a GPA of 2.8 in all required nursing support courses
- Complete all prerequisite courses (please see degree plan)
- Have science courses not older than five years at the time of application
Students with one course failure:
- May apply for re-admission or as a new admission
Students with two course failures:
- Are not eligible for re-admission
- Must wait five years from initial start date to apply as a new student
- Must adhere to admission guidelines for new students
Components of Re-admission
Students must provide to the Associate Degree Nursing Advisor the following:
- Re-admission application
- Updated transcript
- Essay that identifies:
- Factors that have changed since previous admission
- Individual plan for success if re-admitted
- Clarify questions with the Associate Degree Nursing Advisor
- Admission Committee will review the re-admission form each semester and prioritize requests
Students are re-admitted on a space-available basis and notified in writing of the Admission Committee decision.
Re-Admission Requirements
If re-admitted, students must:
- Meet with the Associate Degree Nursing Advisor to update transcripts, physical forms and CPR requirements.
- Contact the Retention Specialist before the first day of class.
International Student Admission Requirements
International students must meet the general admission requirements of McLennan Community College.
International admission requirements are applied to all students who have international secondary or post-secondary educational credentials, regardless of country of citizenship, immigrant status, or visa status. Applicants are exempt from the TOEFL if they are granted U.S. citizenship or have earned a U.S. high school diploma, having attending all four years of high school in the United States.
Application Requirements
- Each high school and college attended must be listed on the application.
- Official transcripts for each high school and college attended must be attached to the application.
- Official records must be provided in the original language; records not in English must be accompanied by a certified translation into English.
- Records must be signed by the registrar, dean or headmaster of the institution issuing the documents. Unofficial records that do not bear the original signature of the institution's representative cannot be used.
- Photocopies will be accepted if they bear the institution's original seal and the original signature of the school official certifying the documents.
- Transcripts and other records attested as certified by a notary public or solicitor (non-institutional official) will not be accepted as official.
English Proficiency Requirements
English proficiency is met through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Students must have:
- A minimum Internet-based TOEFL score of 94 with a minimum Reading score of 22 and a minimum Listening score of 22 OR...
- A paper/pencil test score of 587 with a minimum Reading score of 56 and a minimum Listening score of 22
TOEFL results are valid only up to two years from the testing date; scores more than two years old will not be considered. TOEFL score reports must be sent directly from the testing center to the Associate Degree Nursing Program Director.
