Physical Therapist Assistant

The Physical Therapist Assistant Program is a two-year associate degree program which begins each year in the fall. The curriculum provides theory, lab practice and clinical experience to prepare students to perform quality patient care. Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate is eligible to take the licensure exam approved by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. MCC's PTA program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.
Mission

The mission of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program is to provide optimal learning experiences in a diversity of settings that will prepare students to provide the highest quality of patient care. This will be accomplished through interaction between program faculty and students and utilization of college and clinical resources. The outcome will be to provide the community with Physical Therapist Assistants capable of contributing to physical therapy services in a variety of health care settings.
Application and Admission Requirements
Application Requirements:
In order to be considered for admission to the program, an applicant must submit the following by June 1:
- Completed application forms and official transcripts to the Office of Student Admissions and the PTA Program Director;
- Verification of 20 hours of volunteer or work experience in two different physical therapy settings using the MCC/PTA Physical Therapy Experience Form (NOTE: Applications will not be considered without this verification);
- Two completed MCC/PTA Basic Workplace Skills Assessment Forms (one from a PT or PTA, the other from an employer, supervisor, pastor, teacher, etc. - not a social acquaintance).
Admission Requirements:
Minimum requirements that must be met to be eligible for consideration include a) an ACT composite score of 19; OR b) completion of 12 semester hours from the PTA curriculum with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students must have completed BIOL 2401 and be TSI complete prior to admission into the program. Meeting the criteria does not guarantee admission to the program.

Curriculum
The PTA program is a two-year associate degree program consisting of 11 academic courses and 12 PTA courses.

Physical Therapy Club
Membership in the Physical Therapy Club is open to any student currently enrolled in the Physical Therapist Assistant Program, as well as any prerequisite physical therapy student. Students in the Physical Therapy Club are involved in numerous campus and community activities in order to promote an awareness of physical therapy.
