BMGT 1325 - Office Management
Presents systems, procedures, and practices related to organizing and planning office work, controlling employees' performance, and exercising leadership skills. Prerequisite: ITSW 1301, POFT 1329, and POFT 1302 with a grade of C or better. Semester Hours 3 (3 lec)
ARTC1313 - Digital Publishing I
Introduces computer layout and design using major components of electronic publishing including text, graphics, and page layout and design using a computer. Introduction to the basic concepts and terminology associated with typography and page layout. Prerequisite: ITSW 1301 or basic word processing skills are recommended. Semester Hours 3 (2 lec/2 lab)
ARTC1302 - Digital Imaging I
Covers the utilization of presentation software to produce multimedia presentations. Emphasizes graphics in presentation development. The student will identify presentation media and graphics terminology and concepts; create presentation graphics, use effective composition and style, use text and visual elements; prepare presentations for distribution on computers or hard copy media. Semester Hours 3 (2 Lec / 2 Lab)
ARTC 2312 - Digital Publishing II
Covers manipulation, creation, and editing of digital images. Topics include image capture, high-end workstations, image bit-depth, and interaction with service bureaus and printing industries. Prerequisites: GRPH 1325. Semester Hours 3(2lec/2lab)
HPRS 1206 - Medical Terminology
Introduces study of word origin and structure through the introduction of prefixes, suffixes, root words, plurals, abbreviations and symbols, surgical procedures, medical specialities, and diagnostic procedures. Semester Hours 2 (2 lec)
ITNW 1337 - Introduction to the Internet
Introduces the Internet with emphasis on using the World Wide Web to locate, transfer, and publish information. Surveys emerging technologies on the Internet. Students will use and configure web browsers; use the Internet to locate, transfer and publish information; create a basic HTML document; use e-mail services; and explain issues in choosing an Internet service provider. ITSW 1301 - Introduction to Word Processing (formerly OFAD 2304)
Presents an overview of the production of documents, tables, and graphics. Uses word processing software to create, revise, edit, format, paginate, print, merge and store documents. Prerequisite: POFT 1227 with a grade of C or better or a keyboarding skill of 30 words a minute or better. Semester Hours 3 (2 lec/2 lab)
POFI 2301 - Word Processing Advanced
Presents the various aspects of a word processing software package. Emphasis the use text editing features to produce business documents. Emphasizes macros, columns of text, tables, merge, math functions, document assembly, footnotes, outlining, graphics, and equations. Emphasizes advanced printing techniques. Prerequisite: ITSW 1301 with a grade of C or better, or consent of the program director. Semester Hours 3 (2 lec/2 lab)
POFM 1202 - Computers in Health Careers
Introduces a computerized method for the management and operation of health care information systems for various types of medical facilities. Includes computer terminology, operations and methods. Prerequisite: A keyboarding skill is preferred. Semester Hours 2 (2 lec)
POFM 1233 - Pharmacology for Office Personnel (formerly OFAD 1179)
Studies the general classifications of drugs and their actions and side effects as they relate to anatomy and physiology. Emphasis on drug interactions with each body system, pharmaceutical medical terminology, and generic and trade names of drugs. Semester Hours 2 (2 lec)
POFM 1331 - Medical Transcription
Presents the fundamentals of medical transcription including basic reports such as history and physicals, discharge summaries, consultations, operative reports, and other medical reports. Emphasis on development of speed and accuracy. Prerequisite: ITSW 1301, POFM 1233, HPRS 1206 with a grade of C or better; concurrent enrolled in POFI 2301. Semester Hours 3 (2 lec/2 lab)
POFM 2333 - Medical Document Processing
Studies the advanced concepts of medical office activities, practices, and procedures. Topics includes advanced medical reports. Prerequisite: ITSW 1301 and HPRS 1206 with a grade of C or better; concurrently enrolled in POFI 2301. Semester Hours 3 (2 lec/2 lab)
POFM 2486 - Internship Medical Administrative Assistant
Provides an experience external to the College for an advanced student in a specialized field involving a written agreement between the educational institution and a business or industry. Mentored and supervised by a workplace employee, the student achieves objectives that are developed and documented by the College and that are directly related to specific occupational outcomes. This may be a paid or unpaid experience. Course covers interpersonal and job related skills. Prerequisite: An approved work station and consent of program director. Semester Hours 4 (1 lec/15/20 lab)
POFM 2487 - Medical Administrative - Internship
Provides an experience external to the College for an advanced student in a specialized field involving a written agreement between the educational institution and a business or industry. Mentored and supervised by a workplace employee, the student achieves objectives that are developed and documented by the College and that are directly related to specific occupational outcomes. This may be a paid or unpaid experience. Course covers ergonomics and equipment acquisition.. Prerequisite: An approved work station and consent of program director. Semester Hours 4 (1 lec/15/20 lab)
POFT 1227 - Introduction to Keyboarding
Develops skill in keyboarding with emphasis on alphabet, number, and symbol keys by touch and emphasizes proper keyboarding technique. Semester Hours 2 (1 lec/2 lab)
POFT 1301 - Business English
Introduces a practical application of basic language usage skills with emphasis on fundamen-tals of writing and editing for business. Emphasizes composition of correctly constructed sentences, paragraphs, short essays, letters, and memos; provides practice in proofreading and editing; and offers a review of grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and the mechanics of writing. Student must pass the writing portion of the TASP exam. Prerequisite: a passing TASP writing score or a passing score on the MCC Placement Test on the writing portion or credit for ENGL 0301 Semester Hours 3 (3 lec)
POFT 1309 - Administrative Office Procedures I
Studies current office procedures including telephone skills, time management, travel and meeting arrangements, mail processing, and other duties and responsibilities in an office environ-ment. Semester Hours 3 (3 lec)
POFT 1325 - Business Math and Machine Applications
Develops skill in the use of electronic calculators and business mathematical functions. Emphasis on business problem-solving skills using spreadsheet software and/or electronic calculator/keyboard. Applies problem solving skills utilizing electronic calculators. Enables the student to use mathematical approaches in computing percents and their applications in business discounts, interest, taxes, payroll, markups, consumer and business credit investments, and other business applications. POFT 1329 - Keyboarding and Document Formatting
Develops skill in the operation of the keyboard by touch applying proper keyboarding techniques. Emphasis on development of acceptable speed and accuracy levels and formatting basic documents, such as letters, reports, tables and business forms. Prerequisite: POFT 1227 and ITSW 1301 with a grade of C or better and keyboarding skill of 30 words a minute using touch method. Semester Hours 3 (2 lec/3 lab)
POFT 2203 - Speed and Accuracy Building
Builds skills in reviewing, correcting, improving, and/or perfecting touch-keyboarding techniques to increase speed and improve accuracy. Semester Hours 2 (1 lec/2 lab)
POFT 2301 - Advanced Document Formatting and Skillbuilding
Continues development of keyboarding skills in document formatting, speed, and accuracy. Emphasis on proofreading, editing, and following instructions, and keying documents from various copy. Utilizes word processing software to create mailable copy. Prerequisite: ITSW 1301 and POFT 1329 with a grade of C or better, and keyboard 50 words a minute using touch method. Semester Hours 3 (2 lec/2 lab)
POFT 2203 - Speed and Accuracy Building
Builds skills in reviewing, correcting, improving, and/or perfecting touch-keyboarding techniques to increase speed and improve accuracy. Semester Hours 2 (1 lec/2 lab)
POFT 2312 - Business Correspondence and Communications
Develops skills in practical applications which emphasize the improvement of writing skills necessary for effective business communications. Prerequisite: POFT 1302. Semester Hours 3 (3 lec)
POFT 2321 - Machine Transcription
Develops skill development in mailable business document production using computers and dictation equipment. Skill refinement in grammar and punctuation with emphasis on proofreading and formatting. Includes taking minutes of a meeting. Prerequisite: POFT 1329, ITSW 1301 and current enrollment with a grade of C or better. Semester Hours 3 (2 lec/2 lab)
