Reading Department
Welcome to Developmental Studies in Reading. Reading courses are designed to help students improve their reading strategies and comprehension before beginning reading-intensive college-level courses. The goal is for students to gain a more complete understanding of written English in order to ensure success in their academic and occupational endeavors.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Reading Department is to provide quality reading instructional programs designed to help students improve reading skills so they may achieve success in college reading tasks. Although reading courses are designed to fulfill the student’s own desire for preparation, some of the courses may be required of students whose academic record or placement test scores indicate the need for reading skill development. Additionally, reading courses are designed to help students achieve passing scores on the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) Test.
Facilities
The Writing Center in SC 222 offers free assistance for students in all MCC classes, especially reading and writing courses.
