Duties will be related to patient care and client education. These duties will include, but will not be limited to physical examinations, history, performing ekg’s and tonometry, client education both in clinic and on the telephone, performing dentals, surgical preparation, assisting with radiology, and obtaining samples for laboratory tests.

This job will average 40 hours per week. The starting pay rate will be $13.00/hr with time and one-half overtime. There is a 90 day probationary period, after which the employee will become eligible to participate in the company health care plan and SIRA. After 6 months, the employee will receive 40 hours vacation and 40 hours after each successive 6 months to a maximum of 80 hours per calendar year.

Veterinary Technician

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Ordering medications, feed and supplies in accordance with required stock levels.
Matching purchase orders with packing slip or invoices to verify correct item and quantities were received, entering items received and their costs in practice software.
Daily coordination of the re-stocking of mobile veterinary units, practice pharmacy & large service initiatives.
Weekly inventory check for specific items on mobile veterinary units.
Monitor prescription inventory in all areas of the hospital for expired pharmaceuticals, apply color coded stickers to items expiring in the near future, and rotate compounded pharmaceuticals on the trucks
Proper inventory control, safeguard, costing, systematic & manual reconciliations and pricing/costing of products.
Accountable for quarterly inventory count, process & reporting on all practice pharmaceuticals (mobile and in hospital)
Verify a valid doctor-client-patient relationship exists before filling client orders
Prepare, package and distribute medications as approved by the Doctors following dispensing requirements for client's treatment regime and simple compounding of solutions and ointments when necessary.
Package and ship lab samples via fed-ex or UPS in accordance with each laboratory's requirements
Run in-house CBC and chemistry sample while maintaining tracking of such, as needed.
Verify outside lab costs and oversee fees for tests performed at outside labs
Meet with most vendor representatives, evaluate specials, collect information about new products and deal with returns

The team member will need to have customer service skills in order to:

Discuss and answer questions regarding administration or application of medications and products and their potential side effects with clients as directed by veterinarians.
Answer phone calls for patient refill requests and pharmacy related business.
Fax prescriptions to outside pharmacies as requested.
Keep up to date and accurate medical records.
Invoice medications, feed and supplies and collect payment.

Requirements for this position include:

A general knowledge of pharmacy practices and procedures
A background in animal science or experience working in the veterinary industry is preferred.
The ability to learn and understand medical terminology and procedures, spell, alphabetize, count and perform necessary mathematics.
The ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment, prioritize and delegate, remain focused and detail-orientated while working in order to ensure high quality performance.
The ability to respect confidentiality of company and client/patient data;
The ability to work with computers and other office equipment
Strong organizational, record keeping and communication skills are necessary.

Texas A&M University is seeking an experienced veterinary technician for a full-time position to provide technical support and services for small animal neurology service. This position is responsible for instructing, guiding and supervising students in proper clinical techniques to support patient care, monitor patients to detect any change in their clinical status, provide physical restraint, assist with collection of patient�s blood, urine and tissues and assist with proper submission of each.
