TEACHER ASSISTANT, CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

To provide quality child development and a caring, positive learning environment for young children; to enhance the physical growth, cognitive learning, individuality, and creativity in young children; and to be model for and to assist lab students in the Child Development Center. This position reports to the Facility Director, Child Development Center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Child Development Associates Credential course work towards the AAS degree in Child Development; with commitment to obtain an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Child Development. Commitment to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within four weeks of employment. A minimum of 20 hours additional training per year.
Experience: Two years of experience working with young children.

NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Knowledge of: (1) developmentally appropriate activities for young children; (2) growth and development of young children; (3) appropriate materials to use with different age children; (4) knowledge and training in safety, first-aid and CPR;
Ability to: (5) work with children of all ages; (6) participate in activities of young children; (7) demonstrate appropriate guidance skills; (8) interpret and apply state and college polices, procedures, rules and regulations; (9) perform physical movements with young children; (10) perform light cleaning duties necessary for young children and environment; (11) complete necessary and appropriate documentation; (12) assist in observing children's developmental growth and any problems related to and referral of, as needed; (13) attend and participate in staff meetings, parent training, staff training and professional days; (14) establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; (15) communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Occasional field trips. Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 60 lbs,). Walking, pushing, pulling on a regular basis. Unpleasant exposure (because of heat in summer and cold in winter during outdoor play), minor hazard. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort
