CE PROGRAMMER/ANALYST, INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND SERVICES

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this position is to be the main liaison and contact between the Continuing Education department and Administrative Systems for programming requests, registration, reporting, website content and providing information from the central computer system for Blackboard courses. This position is to analyze problems, customizations and program requests; to design, program, implement and maintain new and upgraded application programs to collect and report information from the central computer system for various departments; to train users; to assist with installation, testing and implementation of software and hardware upgrades; to assist with troubleshooting computer problems; to assist users with questions or problems; to write procedures for programs and user documentation; to assist with system and user security; to create and maintain menus; to assist with gathering information from the central computer system for the website and the Blackboard system.. Receives direction from the Coordinator, Administrative Systems. Exercises no supervision.

NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science or related field and one year computer programming experience or an associate's degree in computer science or related field with 2 years of experience or any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities to qualify.

Knowledge of: (1) EDP programming skills and design; (2) EDP systems and system commands; (3) various word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software and keyboarding; (4) computer systems and diverse computer software; (5) methods, procedures and commands for operating computers and related equipment; (6) database and network systems; (7) policies and procedures; (8) technical writing skills; (9) oral and written communication skills;
(10) supervisory and training skills.
Ability to: (11) to read, interpret and implement detailed, complex and often incomplete instructions; (12) schedule and prioritize work requests; (13) give and receive detailed information over the phone and in writing; (14) work and communicate clearly, effectively and cooperatively with department staff; (15) work and communicate clearly, effectively and cooperatively with computer system users, students and other departments; (16) understand user requests and take appropriate action; (17) interpret and apply policies and procedures; (18) lift up to 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Some walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis. Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors. Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency or severity is limited.
