LAB INSTRUCTOR, HEALTH SCIENCES (PART-TIME)

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

To assist in preparing lab set-ups, materials, supplies, experiments and equipment for student and staff use; to coordinate lab schedules for classes; to instruct in the basic skills taught in the lab; to conduct tutorials; to assist in maintaining records and equipment. Receives general supervision from higher level academic and administrative staff.

NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Equivalent to an Associate's degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: No experience necessary. Teaching experience strongly recommended.

SELECTION CRITERIA

(1) subject matter related to the assigned laboratory; (2) principles and practices of laboratory operations; (3) laboratory techniques related to assigned laboratory; (4) practices of basic record keeping; (5) basic mathematic principles; (6) basic computer principles or skills; (7) safe work practices and methods; (8) operational characteristics of laboratory equipment and materials;
Ability to:(9) prepare tutorial in assigned area of responsibility; (10) teach the basic skills in assigned area of responsibility; (11) prepare laboratory exercises and materials for student use; (12) demonstrate correct laboratory methods, practices, and techniques; (13) provide assistance and instruction to students on matters related to assigned laboratory; (14) understand the mechanical function of and perform routine maintenance and repairs on laboratory equipment in assigned laboratory; (15) train and supervise the work of student laboratory staff; (16) interpret and apply department policies, procedures, rules and regulations; (17) communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; (18) establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Sustained posture, for prolonged periods; light lifting, some walking, pushing, pulling on a regular basis. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

BENEFITS

Part-Time Retirement. Participation in Medicare Part A, but not Social Security (FICA).
