Dr. Balmos was born in San Antonio, Texas and attended school in the Harlandale Independent School District. After graduating from Harlandale High School, he attended Baylor University, completing both his Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Music Theory. While a student at Baylor, he played French horn in the University Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band, Marching Band, and sang in the Chapel Choir, A Capella Choir, and Chamber Singers.

He was also as member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity. During his days at Baylor, he served as music director at the First Baptist Church of Clifton and Grace Temple Baptist Church in Waco. After graduation, he became choral director at Lake Air Junior High School for one year and then moved to Richfield High School (now Waco High School) prior to beginning his tenure at MCC.

 

Personal Information

Dr. Balmos is married to Nancy Balmos (BBA in Accounting from Baylor) whom he first met in the Baylor Marching Band (The flutes sat in front of the French horns). They have three children, David, a civil engineer, Jonathan, a construction manager, and Mandy, who is finishing her Master's degree in vocal performance at the University of Arkansas. The Balmos' have two grandchildren, Chase and Erica.
