MCC First Responders
As MCC grows by leaps and bounds, the Crisis Management Committee realizes our plan for emergency situations must expand to accommodate a larger campus community. In the past, we utilized Building Coordinator positions, which were assigned several years ago, and are no longer practical for such a large campus.
The Crisis committee researched options currently utilized by our peer institutions and decided to form First Responder Teams, which consist of faculty and staff members who volunteer their time to receive special training to assist Campus Police, the Crisis Management Committee or Team and Administration during an emergency.
Each team member may be called upon to give direction and pass along important information during an emergency or assist in first aid care to victims until help arrives on the scene. Additionally, these team members act as the extra eyes and ears to report back to the Incident Commander, once an emergency has been declared.
The Committee has designated three different areas for First Responders. There is a variety of training for each:
First Responder's Team:
- Team T: Traffic control
- Directing emergency vehicles to an emergency scene; assisting with traffic control in case of emergency evacuation or on-site mass vaccinations/medication clinics.
- Team C: Communications
- Assisting the Marketing & Communications Office and Campus Police with signage and communication of information.
- Team F: First Aid/CPR
- Assist in first aid care to victim(s) until emergency personnel arrives on scene; provide AED/CPR to victim until emergency personnel arrives; assist campus police in crowd control.
Each team member (no matter the team) receives training, equipment and information needed to perform all of the duties assigned at no cost to the team member.
