Biographical Information

Mr. Hooten was born in Dallas, Texas and attended the Dallas public schools. After graduation from high school he attended Abilene Christian University, The University of Texas at Arlington, and Texas A&M University at Commerce. He also has done advanced study in music theory at Indiana University and The University of North Texas. Upon graduation from Texas A&M at Commerce, then known as East Texas State University, he taught in the Custer County Consolidated School District R-1 in Westcliffe, Colorado. He also was band director in the Dallas Independent School District for six years.

 

Education

B. S. in Music from Texas A&M at Commerce, emphasis in music education.
M. Ed. in Education from Texas A&M at Commerce, emphasis in music education.
Doctoral study at The University of North Texas, emphasis in music theory and music literature.

 

Personal Information

Married to Jeannie Hooten, also a Dallas native. Two children: Katherine, who is a professional journalist living in the Washington, D.C. area; and Joseph, an elementary music teacher in McKinney, Texas. Joseph is married to Lori, also an elementary school music teacher in McKinney.
