HighlanderOne Card

You probably have numerous questions about the new Highlander OneCard. In an effort to further educate you about this new MCC ID card, we've addressed some of your most frequently asked questions.
Why are we switching from the MAC card?
In an effort to ensure that MCC offers more than just the basic service through our ID cards, the College has partnered with Higher One, Inc. to bring you a new "all in one" ID card, the Highlander OneCard.
How can I use my Highlander OneCard?
The card can be used for all existing ID card services, such as checking out library books, purchasing items from our dining facilities, and accessing buildings and parking gates. Also, after opening a OneAccount, you can use your card where MasterCard is accepted.
When will I get my Highlander OneCard?
You will receive the new card in late April. Incoming students
for the fall 2005 academic year will have their cards mailed to them over
the summer. The card will be sent directly to the address you have on
file with the College. If you need to update your address, please change
it either in WebAdvisor by logging on to www.mclennan.edu,
stop by the Admissions office in the Student Services Building, or fax
changes to 299-8694. Photos can be updated at the ID card desk in the
Learning Technology Center from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
Once I get the card, then what do I do?
In order to use it for on-campus purposes and otherwise, the card will need to be activated by visiting www.highlanderone.com.
What is the OneAccount?
It is an FDIC-insured checking account that enables you to use the Highlander OneCard at any of the locations MasterCard Debit is accepted. Cardholders can get cash from ATMs, write checks, send and receive money electronically from their accounts, and monitor the details of their accounts online.
Does Higher One run a credit check?
No. Higher One offers a OneAccount to all students, faculty, and staff regardless of their credit history.
Is the Highlander OneCard a credit card?
No. Even though the card bears the MasterCard logo, it is NOT a credit card. It can be used as a debit card if you choose to open the OneAccount.
What is changing about financial aid and refund disbursements at McLennan Community College?
Beginning with the first disbursement for Summer 2005, MCC will no longer be disbursing financial aid (Stafford Loans, Pell, and other financial aid ) and other refunds from the Business office.
With the new Highlander OneCard, financial aid and refund disbursements are delivered to you in the way that you choose. Once you receive your new Highlander OneCard, you must log on to www.highlanderone.com to activate your card. Activation is required to access all campus services and to obtain any financial aid or refunds from the college. Therefore, it is important that you activate your card immediately upon receipt to avoid any delays in campus services.
What options are available for receiving financial aid and other refunds from the College?
You may choose one of the following options regarding your disbursement:
- Open the Highlander OneAccount, an FDIC insured bank account. Funds will be direct deposited to this account.
- Have funds direct deposited to the bank of your choice.
- Have a paper check mailed to the address that you provide.
What are the advantages of having my financial aid and refunds directly deposited to my Highlander OneAccount?
By electing to have your financial aid and other refunds deposited directly into your Highlander OneAccount via an Easy Refund, you have access to your monies more quickly and easily than ever before. The Highlander OneAccount is an FDIC-insured bank account that has no monthly fees and no minimum balance. When money is deposited into your account, you will receive an Easy Refund e-mail confirmation. Then you can use your Highlander OneCard to access your money or make purchases anywhere MasterCard is accepted. In addition, you will be able to see the details of your Highlander OneAccount by accessing your statement at www.highlanderone.com.
What happens if I elect to have my financial aid and other refunds directly deposited to another bank account?
You must activate your Highlander OneCard and select the option to have your monies directly deposited into another account. You will then be required to print, complete, and mail the Third Party Form (available at www.highlanderone.com) to the address indicated on the form. When Higher One receives the form, and your monies are made available by MCC, your funds will be deposited into your designated bank account in one to three business days.
What if I elect to have my financial aid or other refunds mailed to me as a paper check?
You must activate your Highlander OneCard and select the option to have a paper check mailed to you. Once MCC makes the monies available, Higher One will mail a check to the address you designate within two business days. Depending on the mailing time, your check should be delivered to your address within four to five business days.
Are there fees associated with using the Highlander OneAccount?
There can be usual and customary fees associated with the Highlander OneAccount:
- If you use a Higher One ATM machine, you will not be assessed a fee.
- If you use an ATM machine that is not a Higher One designated ATM machine, you will be assessed a fee by that specific institution in addition to a $1.50 per transaction fee charged by HigherOne.
- If you initiate a debit purchase, by entering your PIN number instead of a signature-based debit card transaction, you will be assessed $.50 cents per transaction.

What happens if I never activate my Highlander OneCard and I am due financial aid or other refund?
You will be sent an e-mail notification indicating that MCC has processed a financial aid disbursement or a refund for you. It will advise you to log on to www.highlanderone.com to activate your card and select your payment method.
