| Here are some ideas on how instructors can provide library resources to their students within their Blackboard courses for internet, supplemental and hybrid courses. Library Button –
Links to Library Content
Online Reading Lists – Library Orientation Resources by Subject – Tutorials Put a Library Button in Blackboard Example:
Link
to "The MCC Library for Online Students" If you want to link to a different page that resides on the library web site (ex: Resources by Subject, Internet Sites by Subject, the library home page, Find Articles, Research & More), copy the link that shows up in the address bar, give it an informative name and follow the same directions as given for creating an externally linked button. Ask an MCC Librarian to work with you to create a custom page for your course's subject area or assignments (ex: National Government Legislative Research). Links to Online Library Content (Persistent Linking) Examples: Ramsay, K., & Kinnie, J. (2006). The Embedded Librarian. Library Journal, 131(6), 34-35. Distance Education Report (1094-320X) Uncovering our history: teaching with primary sources / Susan H. Veccia. Chicago : American Library Association, 2004. To create links for your students to go directly to content stored in our library subscription databases: Online Reading Lists Reading lists or electronic bibliographies consist of links to articles,
books, web sites and more for a class reading list. The bibliography
could be created by an instructor or in collaboration with a librarian.
Electronic bibliographies or reading lists could be uploaded into your
Blackboard course or could be placed on our Course eReserves page. The
library can create a reading list or bibliography for you in MS Word
of PDF format. Library Orientation – general or specific course area These sets of materials can include subject guides, instructional
materials on research in PowerPoint format, and other useful information
for students pertaining to use of the physical and online library. /library/guide/COSC /library/guide/orient/index.html This is link on the library web site that can be placed in Blackboard, Course eReserves, or other library web page. By posting it to the library web site the library can track the usage of the pages and determine usefulness or areas of improvement. Contents are more efficiently updated if stored on the library web site rather than in Blackboard. However, if you would like to upload it all in Blackboard, you could do that as well. *Suggestions Resources by Subject Examples: These are lists of recommended resources for a broad subject area: including books, article databases, print journals, electronic journals, eBooks, Web subject directories, scholarly web sites. These can be customized to a specific assignment or subject if needed (ex: biographies, book reviews, scientific reports, literary criticism, searching the internet). *Suggestions Ask the library to create a custom subject guide for your course or specific assignment. See also, Internet Sites by Subject (http://mccintsub.wikispaces.com/) for other subject area lists (online resources only, no print) Tutorials Examples: /library/help/help.html#tut /library/guide/guides.html Tutorials on the use of an MCC Library database created by our librarians or links to topical/concept tutorials in research and database vendor created tutorials. *Suggestions Ask the library to create a custom tutorial for your course or specific
assignment. |
