Information about Off-campus Access

Having problems accessing an online database or journal article? Try a different browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Opera. Most of our databases seem to function well in Mozilla Firefox. All of these browsers can be downloaded for free and you can have more than one browser on your computer.

Current students taking MCC courses and current faculty and staff can use the library's online databases from home or another off-campus computer that is connected to the Internet. University Center students (UTA, Tarleton, UT Brownsville, UTMB) are not able to access our library's databases from off-campus; however, they can login to their affiliated university's library resources.

To login to the databases from off-campus, go to Articles, Research, & More and select the name of the online resource you intend to search or click above on the button labeled "ENTER."

EBSCOhost Databases go Mobile!
The new EBSCOhost application is tailor-made for the smaller screens of mobile devices, and offers the most important EBSCOhost features and functionality, right in the palm of your hand!
The new interface includes many features for an enhanced mobile experience, is optimized for internet-enabled handheld devices, and is qualified for all the major smartphones such as iPhone, Blackberry and Treo.
Many of the existing EBSCOhost features such as search modes and limiting to full text, date ranges, peer-reviewed content, or by publication are available. Users will also be able to search images from their mobile devices. The result list is scrollable, and available data includes citations, Image Quick View, and access to full-text articles. The results list also features a relevancy indicator, and users are able to email results.

    If You Have Problems
  • If the error message you see says "You may have entered your login information incorrectly. Please try again," try retyping your information. If that does not solve the problem, your information may be incorrect in our system. Call the library reference desk at 299-8323, email the library staff, or contact Network Services at 299-8077.

  • Do not use AOL's browser: If you are using AOL's browser to access the Internet, use Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox instead. Once you are connected to AOL, you can minimize their browser and open another instead.

  • Enable Cookies: You may experience problems if you have not setup your browser to accept cookies.

What are cookies? Certain web sites require the use of "domain-based cookies". A web server named web1.somedb.com might set a cookie and request that it be sent back to any server ending in .somedb.com. Many URL rewriting proxy servers either leave these cookies alone (which destroys their ability to function) or change the cookie so that it is sent back to all virtual web servers (causing cookies to "leak" to the wrong servers). EZproxy handles this situation by storing all domain-based cookies directly on the server as part of the user's session information. (from http://www.usefulutilities.com/support/technical.html)

Enabling Cookies in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x
  • Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu.
  • Click on the "Privacy" tab.
  • Move the slider barto the lowest position called "Accept All Cookies."
  • Click "OK".
For other versions or Firefox, see Google's quick guide on How to Enable Cookies.

  • High Speed problems: If you are using high speed Internet services (such as web accelerator programs from NetZero HiSpeed or Juno Speedband), you will need to turn the high speed option off while you are using the library's databases.

  • Other errors: If you see any error messages mentioning "EzProxy administrator" or "hostname," please copy the text of the error message and paste it into our Ask a Librarian form.
