Kimberly Kelly, Modern Day Drifters come to River Sounds on June 19
June 5, 2008
River Sounds, a free concert series with music by regional and local bands, will be a family affair when the Kimberly Kelly Band and Modern Day Drifters (featuring Kristen Kelly) perform on June 19 at the Bosque River Stage. The concert begins at 8 p.m., and gates open at 7 p.m.
Making a name for herself on the country music scene, Kimberly Kelly brings a smoky, southern style to her original songs and covers of country classics. On stage, this MCC alum and University Center graduate is known for her energy and wit. Along with her exceptional vocals, Kelly adds some flavor to her sound with the mandolin. The other band members playing River Sounds are Nick Dennard (guitar), Katie Holmes (fiddle), Canyon Kafer (bass), Trent Kuklies (steel guitar) and Jonathan Kutz (drums).
The Modern Day Drifters began with a collaboration between MCC Commercial Music program grads Joe Churchill and Kristen Kelly, who boasts the same musical talent as her sister, Kimberly. Churchill and Kelly share the lead vocal duties, and Churchill plays guitar. The two added Cody Berry (drums), Luke Bishop (steel guitar), Derrick Dutton (guitar) and Seth Holobaugh (bass) to round out the band. The Drifters' sound is a combination of soul, rock and country that appeals to a wide range of music lovers. The group recently released its debut album, The Highway is my Home.
River Sounds concert-goers may bring blankets, lawn chairs, food and drinks to the outdoor amphitheater and may choose lawn seating or one of the stadium-style seats. Concessions and restrooms will be available. For more information, call 299-8283 or visit www.bosqueriverstage.com.
