Topping Out Ceremony performed for Science Building

June 18, 2008

McLennan Community College held a Topping Out Ceremony for its new Science Building at 2 p.m. June 24 across from the construction site.

This symbolic ceremony is performed when the last beam of steel is placed at the top of a building. For the MCC Science Building, a burr oak sapling will be positioned on top of the building to symbolize the final top beam. Instead of leaving the tree on top of the building throughout its construction, MCC will plant the sapling on campus shortly after the ceremony as part of the school's ongoing sustainability effort.

The event is was attended by the MCC administration; several members of the MCC Board of Trustees; officials from Harrison, Walker & Harper construction company; and the campus community.
