"Cabaret" featured at MCC Hearts in the Arts Gala on Feb. 28
January 16, 2009
McLennan Community College and the MCC Foundation will host the MCC Hearts in the Arts Scholarship Gala on Saturday, Feb. 28. The gala will feature the McLennan Theatre performance of the award-winning musical "Cabaret."
Patrons will begin their gala experience with a 6 p.m. cocktail buffet at the Steinbeck Bend-area home of Don and Carol Behringer, just minutes from the MCC campus. Afterward, guests will attend the theatre performance at 8 p.m. in MCC's Ball Performing Arts Center. A lavish dessert reception with the cast and crew will conclude the evening.
Tickets are $50 per person, and proceeds benefit MCC scholarships. Seating is limited, and the deadline for tickets is Feb. 23.
"Cabaret" transports the audience to the Kit Kat Klub, a 1930s Berlin hideaway where Sally Bowles and "the Emcee" lead their fellow cabaret artists through nightly musical escapades spiced with political satire. But the impending Nazi domination looms large as everyone lives wild to avoid the chaos around them. "Cabaret" debuted on Broadway in 1966 and experienced two Broadway revivals; it has won 12 Tony and four Drama Desk awards.
