New MCC building named "Green Success Story"

April 6, 2009

McLennan Community College's Emergency Services Education Center (ESEC) has been selected from more than 2,500 projects as a Green Building of America Award-winning project by Real Estate & Construction Review-Southwest. The building will be featured in a special "Green Success Stories" edition of the publication.

The ESEC will be highlighted in a case study that explains how the school, architects, contractors and consultants worked together to design and build this 49,000-square-foot sustainable facility. The ESEC is expected to receive a gold rating by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, though MCC is striving for platinum (the highest rating). The building will house several of MCC's human services programs and will provide a central location for training regional police, fire and emergency medical professionals. The ESEC is expected to open in July.
