Highlanders named Academic National Champions

The McLennan Community College men's golf team was named the NJCAA Division I Academic National Champion today by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The Highlanders received the honor for having the highest grade point average among the teams that qualified for the award.
Other schools named Academic National Champions were: East Tennessee State (NCAA Division I), St Mary's of Texas (NCAA Division II), Gustavus Adolphus (NCAA Division III), Savannah College of Art and Design (NAIA) and Tyler Junior College (NJCAA Division II).
In May, the Highlanders captured the NJCAA National Championship and the team was named an NJCAA Academic Team of the Year.
Individually, sophomores Jacob Aaholm and Curt McCormac were recognized as Academic All-Americans for having grade point averages between 3.6 and 3.79.
