MCC finalizes plan to reduce greenhouse gases on campus

September 18, 2009

As part of its association with the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), McLennan Community College has finalized its Climate Action Plan, which documents how the college will reduce campus greenhouse gas emissions in an effort to reduce global warming. The overall goal is for MCC to achieve a "climate-neutral" campus.

The Climate Action Plan--which was compiled by MCC's sustainability committee--outlines past, current and future strategies for reducing greenhouse gases. The plan focuses on reducing carbon emissions from facilities, which MCC is already accomplishing with its three new 'green' buildings.

The plan also includes policies on recycling and energy conservation, and, in accordance with the ACUPCC, it defines how MCC will increase environmental awareness with students and the community.

Launched in 2007, the ACUPCC is a network of 650 signatory schools, representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia. This high-visibility effort to address global warming garners institutional commitments to neutralize greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate the research and educational efforts of higher education to equip society to re-stabilize the earth's climate.
