Archeological awareness event is Oct. 15
October 2, 2009
The Central Texas Archeological Society will have a Texas Archeological Awareness Event at McLennan Community College on Oct. 15 in the Michaelis Academic Center Student Commons.
An Archeological Information Fair will take place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. that will include information about mammoth hunters from the Gualt site (an archeological site located between Fort Hood and Georgetown), as well as opportunities to learn about the importance of archeology in Texas.
A "Meet the Archeologists" reception will take place at 5-6 p.m., followed by "The Mammoth Hunters" presentation from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The lecture will feature Dr. Clark Wernecke, executive director of the Gault School of Archaeological Research.
The presentation will feature information about the unfolding interpretations of what life was like 13,000 years ago at the Gault site and how these ideas are helping to mold a dramatically new view of the peopling of the Americas.
