Biology students host lecture by wildlife ecologist Oct. 16
October 2, 2009
Biology students at MCC will present a lecture by Dr. Fred Gehlbach about how a wildlife ecologist works in unknown territory. The event will be 10-11 a.m. Oct. 16 in the Science Building, room 119, and is the first presentation in the BioChatter Lecture Series sponsored by students in BIOL 1407.
Gehlbach holds a B.A. and M.S. from Cornell University and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan's School of Natural Resources. He is a research professor at Baylor University, where he taught general biology, ecology, population ecology and ornithology from 1963-1995. He also co-founded the environmental studies program there.
During his career, Gehlbach has received several awards for his conservation work and has served on the boards of state and national conservation organizations. His research has been sponsored by national agencies and organizations, and he has performed consulting work for a wide variety of private and nonprofit groups.
Gehlbach's professional goal is to combine logical and intuitive approaches to the study of natural processes, to employ modern techniques in understanding repeated natural patterns, and to combine nature and culture in ways that promote the conservation of all life.
