MCC to participate in EOAC training grant for low-income students

October 2, 2009

McLennan Community College students and unemployed individuals needing job training may be eligible for financial support through a short-term training grant awarded to the Economic Opportunities Advancement Corporation. The grant provides immediate funding for those who meet income eligibility requirements.

The grant helps current MCC students who are facing some financial "barrier" to completing their education, such as affording books or child care, said Johnette Hicks, EOAC executive director.

Individuals who are unemployed and need job training can also benefit from the grant, which will pay for them to receive training at MCC in several professions. Among the courses that will be covered in the grant are truck driving, office administration, certified water operator, certified nurse aide, medication aide, pharmacy technician and EKG technician.
