Satellite seminar features founder of micro-lending Web site
October 9, 2009
Phi Theta Kappa at McLennan College Community will host a free satellite seminar that will explore "The Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges, and Consequences" on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. in MCC's Lecture Hall building.
The featured speaker is Jessica Jackley, co-founder of Kiva, a revolutionary micro-lending Web site that lets individuals lend money to specific entrepreneurs, empowering them to lift themselves out of poverty. Jackley demonstrates how the Internet can facilitate meaningful, positive connections between lenders and entrepreneurs in the developing world and even help us all become microfinanciers.
Following the recorded satellite presentation, Dr. Jim King, dean of the Business School at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, will serve as facilitator of a discussion on the topic. King consults in business process and systems integration and micro-enterprise development and entrepreneurship in developing countries.
