Satellite seminar on Nov. 5 explores link between affluence and happiness

October 23, 2009

Phi Theta Kappa at McLennan Community College will host a free satellite seminar, "If You're So Rich, How Come You're Not Happier?" at 6 p.m. Nov. 5 in the Lecture Hall.

The seminar will feature Ray Suarez, author and senior correspondent for "The NewsHour" on PBS. An observer of the changing nature of communities and the intersection of religion and politics, Suarez will discuss "America's Troubled Relationship with Class, Material Success and the Pursuit of Happiness."

The former host of NPR's "Talk of the Nation," Suarez joined "The NewsHour" as a Washington-based senior correspondent in 1999. A longstanding member of the Washington press corps, he is well-known for his expertise on quintessentially American issues, including politics, demographics, race and religion.

Following the recorded satellite presentation, Dr. Mary Landon Darden will serve as facilitator of a discussion on the topic. Darden is an author, higher education consultant and adjunct professor at Baylor University.
