Ranch CE Programs

We offer a variety of Continuing Education courses throughout the year.

Horses 101 - Thinking of buying a horse, getting back into horses, or just need to learn more about your horse? In this course we will cover the basics of nutrition, worming & vaccination, stable care, choosing a horse, and proper handling. This course will help answer all the questions you have about buying a horse and horse ownership. This is a hands-on course where each participant will be working with a horse. Equine First Aid - Let Sue Allen, Registered Veterinary Technician; teach you common sense approaches to treating illness and recognizing injury in your horse. In this course you learn to detect early signs and symptoms of various illnesses and how to take care of your horse until the vet arrives. Sue will teach you different techniques and applications so you can competently medicate and care for your horse after the vet is gone. This class is a must for all equine owners. Riding Instructor Certification - Certified Horsemanship Association awards certification as an instructor of riding theory and application. Course participants will be evaluated on their ability to teach group riding lessons. The evaluation categories are safety, horsemanship, teaching techniques, group control and professionalism. Saturday Saddle Club - Highlander Ranch is excited to continue the Saturday Saddle Club! The Saddle Club will be held one Saturday a month. Students will learn aspects of horsemanship, such as grooming, tacking, care and maintenance, riding and health care. Saddle Club will be a great way to spend a Saturday at the Highlander Ranch! Dressage Clinics - Dressage is the training of a horse to carry out a series of precise controlled movements in response to minimal signals from its rider. It is the foundation for all styles of riding, and you will benefit whether you ride competitively or just want to improve your riding techniques. Included in this clinic is a stall for your horse and lunch for both days. For more information about this course contact Warren Johnson.

Equestrian Camp – We offer riding camps in both the summer and winter months for beginners through advanced riders. Camps are one/half day and partner each child up with their own horse for the week. For more information on this program contact Jennifer Matthews.

Texas Agrilife Extension Service - We partner with them to offer courses on topics as Pond Management, Brush Control, and Oak Wilt. It partnership with them we also offer showmanship and management clinics for various FFA and 4H programs like swine production, sheep and goat management and beef production.
