Riding Lessons

The Highlander Ranch is a CHA Affiliated facility. All instuctors are CHA Certified.

Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced*Hunter/Jumper*Western*Dressage*Schooling horses available

Registration is on a month to month basis, you must be registered by the 15th of the preceding month to ensure enrollment.
Cost: $50 Private lessons; $30 group lessons (2 or more riders)

Meet the instructors:

Kelly Allbury:
Kelly has ridden to many Regional Championships and a National Top Ten Junior title. In high school she diversified her interests by competing in eventing, earning multiple wins and qualifying for the American Eventing Championships at the Junior and Open Training level divisions. Kelly was a rated member of the United States Pony Club in where she qualified for USPC Nationals at 2nd level and in show jumping. According to Kelly, "Dressage will always be my main passion though, and I am excited about helping others experience the joy of harmony between horse and rider".

Doreen Atkinson
Doreen has trained and shown horses all of her life. She has worked with and trained many different breeds of horses from Quarter horses to Lusitano stallions. Although very diverse in her equine experience she focuses most of her training and competition on dressage. Doreen’s show experiences include competitive trail riding and Dressage where she has won numerous awards in training, 1st and 2nd level. She has trained under the tutelage of Olympic and nationally acclaimed instructors which include Peter Van Borst, Carol Lavell, Hilda Gurney, Dr. Cesar Parra, Michael Poulin, Sue Malone Casey and others.

Melanie Hammer
Melanie started riding in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota at the age of 7. Her show career was first found in the local show scene showing English in flat and over fences and also some western and gaming where she was top five in Minnesota. Melanie is a past member of the Pony Club and rated a C-3. In 2007 she became an Assistant Instructor at Four Winds Equestrian Center in Brainerd, Minnesota teaching jumping and dressage alongside Toni Wasilensky. In the summer of 2008 she taught jumping and flatwork at a private facility which bought and sold Kieger Mustangs. Melanie has also had the privilege of riding with Kelly MacDonald, Todd Wolf, Shannon Loven and David O’Connor.
