What is an advisor for?
An advisor is assigned to you in order to help you be successful at MCC and
achieve your academic goals.
College is a new experience for most students. College is different from high
school or the workplace. Your advisor can help you make the transition so that
you can get the most out of your stay at MCC.
Why do you need academic advising?
- To gain an understanding of MCC policies and degree requirements
- To help you choose or change a major
- To avoid courses for which you're unprepared
- To prepare for transfer or career opportunities
- To track progress toward and plan for graduation
- To help with course selection and scheduling
Academic Advising
Advising is a shared responsibility between the advisor and the student. The
advisor’s task is to guide the student toward accepting responsibility for mature
academic decision making. Your meeting with your advisor will be a time for
you to discuss goals, schedule for the upcoming semester, and explore opportunities
available to you in your major.
Orientation and Advising for New Students
All new students are required to attend MCC Connections, an Orientation and Advising Session. Attendance at one of these sessions is required for all new full-time students.
