Single Parent/Displaced Homemaker Services

If you are a single parent or displaced homemaker, McLennan Community College offers special services to help you succeed in college and in life. This program began in 1979 as a community service of the Junior League of Waco, Inc. Since that time this program has helped more than 7,000 students discover within themselves the strength to begin a new life.

- Funds for Child Care or Transportation
Requirements to be eligible
Perkins Funds provide financial assistance with childcare or transportation expenses. To be eligible for these funds you must have all of the following qualifications and criteria:
- Single parent, single pregnant woman, widowed, deserted, divorced, or have a disabled spouse. For childcare assistance, the child must reside with applicant. Children who are 3 years of age prior to September 1 are eligible for Head Start and will not be funded unless Head Start is not available in your community.
- Pell Grant already processed and a duplicate copy of an award letter from Financial Aid.
- Enrolled for nine or more hours in a workforce education program (not for transfer students). Class schedule must match applicants degree plan.
- Automated degree plan from a workforce education program. **A pre-health career is an approved workforce education program.
- Unofficial transcript for student.
- 2.00 GPA each semester.
- Interview, by appointment only.
