Student Support Services

MCC’s Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded Trio Program that offers additional comprehensive academic services to eligible students. All services are free and designed to assist students to stay in college and either graduate from MCC and/or transfer to a four-year college.

Eligible Students

Must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and meet one of the following criteria:

  • Neither parent has a four-year college degree.
  • Student has a documented disability (physical, psychological, emotional, learning, etc.)
  • Student meets federal income guidelines.

Services

  • Academic & Personal Counseling
    SSS Program provides academic, career and personal counseling. An intake is conducted with each eligible student to explore current academic needs and resources available to develop an individualized system of support. Students are assisted with career planning and problem solving skills.
  • Tutoring
    Tutoring services are free! Weekly one-on-one and group peer tutoring are offered as well as walk-in tutoring.
  • College Tours for Transfer Students
    Students are offered opportunities to visit four-year universities and learn about their admission requirements. Some universities previously toured include: Texas A&M, Tarleton State, Prairie View A&M, and Mary Hardin-Baylor.
  • Cultural Enrichment Activities
    Local and out-of-town cultural enrichment activities are offered to SSS participants at no charge.
  • Study Skills Sessions
    Study skills sessions are offered throughout each semester. Topics include time management, positive self-image, learning styles, etc.
  • Non-Work Study Tutoring Positions
    Non-work study tutoring positions are available! Students interested in assisting students in succeeding academically must have completed courses with a grade of an A or B or be recommended by an instructor in the course they desire to tutor. Tutors must also complete an eight-hour training program.

If you answered yes to one of the three criteria listed under "Eligible Student," please come by our office and complete an application.

In order to benefit from the SSS services in a timely manner, the last date to apply for services in each semester is as follows:
Fall & Spring - 3 weeks before the week of semester finals
Summer I & Summer II - 2 weeks before the week of semester finals
