Advanced Technical Credit

The Advanced Technical Credit (ATC) Program gives high school students a chance to receive credit at participating community colleges across Texas for taking certain enhanced technical courses during high school. All the participating community colleges have agreed to offer students credit for these courses, provided the college offers the course and the student meets certain criteria. For a high school to offer an ATC course to its students, the teacher of the course must meet the ATC teacher requirements, go through ATC training and teach the high school course so that it is enhanced to meet the content of the equivalent college course. ATC courses are only offered in technical or workforce areas - courses in academic areas such as English or history are not offered as ATC courses.

To receive college credit for the ATC courses you took during high school, you need to do the following:

  1. You must meet all admission requirements to MCC and enroll within 15 months of high school graduation.
  2. Take a copy of your high school transcript to the Tech Prep Office at MCC, Applied Science Building, room 219.
  3. Complete a Petition for Articulated Credit form.
  4. The Technician will help you identify the college courses that are equivalent to the ATC courses you took in high school. MCC can only award you credit for courses that we offer.
  5. Select a college technical certificate or degree plan that includes one or more of those courses.
  6. MCC will post ATC credit on the MCC transcript when you complete six non-developmental college hours at the College with a grade point average of 2.0 or better.
  7. You will not be charged tuition and fees to receive this credit.
  8. ATC credit does not affect your college grade point average, but will be included in accumulated college hours attempted and earned.
  9. ATC credit will only be granted to students whose school district participates in the Advanced Technical Credit program, the teacher is Advanced Technical Credit certified, and the credit is approved by the Division Director of Business Programs at MCC.
