Advanced Placement (AP)

ADVANCE PLACEMENT

The College Board Advance Placement Program (AP) enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. AP offers more than 30 exams in multiple subject areas. AP exams are given nationally at designated high schools during the month of May and are graded on a scale of 0-5. McLennan Community College accepts scores from certain Advance Placement tests for credit in selected courses. Interested students should contact their high school counselors for information on registration and test sites. Students should also refer to MCC's current College Credit by Examination policy and contact their academic advisor to determine which courses apply to their perspective degree program.

College Credit by Examination (Policy B-VI)

AP Guidelines:

  • AP credits cannot be assigned a letter grade and are not counted in grade point average (GPA) calculations.
  • Official AP score reports must be sent to the MCC Testing Center. Students can request official score reports to be sent when they register for the exam or by contacting The College Board at apscore.collegeboard.org/scores/.
  • AP credit cannot be counted as part of the class load for financial aid purposes.
  • No more than 24 credit by exam credits may be applied to your undergraduate degree with MCC.
  • McLennan Community College has a list of recognized AP exams that it accepts for credit. It is the student's responsibility to verify that the exam s/he takes will apply to his/her program of study.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to consult with an advisor or school counselor prior to taking an AP exam.
  • Every institution establishes its own policies regarding AP credit. If the student chooses to transfer to another institution, s/he should be aware of the AP requirements, minimum scores, and credit awarded for AP exams.
  • Credits are awarded for AP exams according to the policy in effect at the time of the AP transcript.
  • McLennan Community College reserves the right to revise this policy without notice

How do I send or request an AP score report?
At the time of the test, you can request to send you scores to MCC. If you did not request to send your scores in this manner you will have to request a copy be sent to MCC. Official scores can be requested online through your College Board account. Our AP school code is 6429.

Once the scores are received by the MCC Testing Center, they will be reviewed and processed for credit. If applicable, they will be sent to the Office of the Registrar for posting of credit.

Students should present their scores as soon as possible to allow time for them to be received, verified, and sent to the registrar's office so the credit can be placed on their transcripts. Scores should be submitted no later than the semester before you are supposed to graduate.

Please note, scores from exams taken in May do not arrive at MCC until mid-July!
