Psychological Services Bureau (PSB)

The Psychological Services Bureau (PSB) examination is specifically designed for those students entering education programs for health professions and is used as part of the admissions process for MCC's ADN program. MCC offers two ways to take this exam. In-person at MCC (Client Proctored) or off-campus at a Pearson Vue testing location (Pearson Proctored). The PSB Exam is comprised of a series of tests that measure abilities, knowledge, and attitudes considered important for successful performance in a health program.

Examinees taking the PSB exam will test in the following subjects and will be allotted 110 minutes:
    – Academic Aptitude: Includes Verbal, Arithmetic, Nonverbal (90 questions, 30 minutes)
    – Spelling (50 questions, 15 minutes)
    – Reading Comprehension (40 questions, 20 minutes)
    – Natural Science (90 questions, 30 minutes)
    – Vocational Adjustment (90 questions, 15 minutes)

Note: Some individuals may receive experimental questions during their exam. The experimental questions do not count in an individual's score. The max number of experimental questions is 36 with a max additional time of 12 minutes.

The MCC Testing Center administers testing for the PSB exam throughout the year. See upcoming dates below.

SCHEDULING YOUR CLIENT PROCTORED PSB EXAM AT THE MCC TESTING CENTER

An MCC student ID number, MCC student email address, and valid phone number are required for testing. To obtain an MCC student ID, you must apply to the college. Once your application is processed, you will receive a welcome email with your MCC ID number.

The following steps are required to test:

  • Scheduling: Schedule an appointment through the following link: https://www.mclennan.edu/testing-center/Schedule.html and pay your $20 (plus $3.50 service fee) proctoring fee to the MCC Testing Center.

  • Pre-Registration: 48-hours before your scheduled PSB exam, MCC Testing will provide PSB with your contact information. You will receive an email from PSB (support@psbtests.com) with the subject "PSB Test Pre-Registration". Click on the link provided to pre-register with PSB and to pay $60 for your PSB exam. Complete the steps as indicated. The MCC Testing Center will text you at the phone number provided during scheduling, once your information has been submitted to PSB.  Do not complete your pre-registration with PSB unless you are sure you will make your appointment. Once this step is completed, you will not be able to reschedule.

  • Next, wait for an "Authorization to Test" email from PearsonVue. This email will come from pearsonvueconfirmation@pearson.com and should be received within one business day after completing your pre-registration with PSB.
IMPORTANT: You must complete the following steps 24-hours or less from your scheduled PSB exam. We highly recommend you complete this step the night before or the morning of your exam.
    1. Go to the link in your "Authorization to Test" email, http://www.pearsonvue.com. Please note: You cannot use a cell phone to register from this point.
    2. When there, click on "For test-takers" at the top, then "Schedule an exam" in the dropdown.
    3. On this page, find "Ready, set, test" and enter PSB in the box beside it, then click on the company name it brings up.
    4. On the page that opens, look for "Create Account" and click on it. Next you'll be asked for your first and last name and PSB ID which will be listed on the PearsonVue "Authorization to Test" email. Enter these fields and any additional fields required to create your PearsonVue account.
    5. Next you will be taken to your PearsonVue Dashboard. Click on the "Do you have a private access code?" link. Enter your private access code which will be listed on your "PSB Test Pre-Registration" email.
    6. Continue through the steps of "scheduling" your PSB exam until you reach "You are booked!" Once completed, you will receive a "Confirmation of Pearson VUE Exam Appointment" email. This email serves as confirmation that you have completed all necessary steps to test at the MCC Testing Center.

  • On test day, you will need to arrive 15-20 minutes before your scheduled test time. This is so you can complete the check-in process, testing staff can verify you have completed both the pre-registration and test authorization correctly, and assist you if you have not. Those who do not arrive at least 15-minutes prior to their scheduled test time will not be able to test.  In addition, you will need to bring a valid, unexpired photo ID and your log-in information for PearsonVue. Acceptable forms of government-issued IDs include a driver's license, state ID card, passport, military ID, national ID, tribal ID, naturalization card, certificate of citizenship, or permanent resident card (Green Card). A photo or photocopy of an ID is not acceptable. ID photos must be clear and recognizable. Student IDs are not acceptable.

Testing space is limited. Students must have an appointment to test. Walk-ins are not accepted for this exam.

SCORES

The MCC Testing Center will email your score report within one (1) business day to your MCC student email. Unfortunately, if you are testing on a Friday, it could be Monday before you receive your results, as it could take up to 24-hours for your scores to be uploaded to the PSB system. Also, once scores are received, your percentile scores will be recorded in your student record. Those scores can be located under Test Scores in your MCC Student Planner account.

RETEST
Students are permitted to take the PSB twice per application cycle they are applying. The ADN program has a policy that states the exam may not be retaken within a 30-day period. If the candidate tests more than twice or retakes the exam during this period, the administration is considered invalid, the score is canceled, and exam fees are forfeited.

Requests for the 30-day waiting period to be waived may be sent to Shelley Blackwood at sblackwood@mclennan.edu for the ADN program. All approved requests must be sent in writing to the MCC Testing Center at testingcenter@mclennan.edu by the program director.

TESTING SCHEDULE
The PSB begins promptly at the times listed below.  Testing candidates will need to arrive 15-20 minutes before your scheduled test time. This is so you can complete the check-in process, testing staff can verify you have completed both the pre-registration and test authorization correctly, and assist you if you have not. Those who do not arrive at least 15-minutes prior to their scheduled test time will NOT be able to test.

RESOURCES

TESTING ACCOMMODATIONS
The MCC Testing Center works closely with Accommodations (Disability Services) to provide services for students with ADA accommodations. Testing candidates requiring testing accommodations must register first with Accommodations. The registration process with Accommodations should be done in a timely manner to allow enough reasonable time for the Testing Center to prepare all testing accommodations.

Once testing accommodations have been approved, the student must inform the MCC Testing Center of his or her approved testing accommodations, so their RegisterBlast account can be appropriately set-up prior to registering for an exam. Students who do not follow these steps run the risk of not having their testing accommodations for that exam.

See the Requesting Accommodations webpage for process information. See webpage for ACT & SAT, CLEP, and HiSet for information on how to request accommodations for these exams.

FOR STUDENTS FROM ANOTHER COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY:
Your college or university must submit a Letter of Accommodation to the MCC Testing Center before any testing accommodations will be provided. Email to testingcenter@mclennan.edu or fax to 254-299-6200 Attn: Testing Services.

Note: Any student who has approved accommodations and who cannot see or select their approved testing accommodation when registering for an exam should contact the MCC Testing Center immediately and prior to registering for any exams.
