Lighthouse Hospice
Volunteers serve in a variety of ways: helping with events in nursing homes, personal visits to patients/families on service, and even general office work.
Shepherd's Heart Food Pantry
Volunteers help to fight hunger by stocking shelves in the pantry, preparing bags of groceries, and delivering groceries to homebound individuals.
The Arc of McLennan County
Help with the after-school program, which offers care and activities for children and young adults with developmental disabilities, by reading to children, playing games and just having fun with participants.
Street Outreach for Survival
Volunteers work in a guided group to identify homeless/runaway children and young adults from 0-25 years. Volunteers establish a rapport with the youth, and may provide them with basic supplies and information on available services. Volunteers will not work alone, and will always have a group leader. Volunteers may also work at special events or make presentations in schools to explain the services offered to youth.
Art Center of Waco
Volunteers are needed to serve as docents greeting the public and giving tours, provide assistance to instructors and campers at Summer Art Camp and the Fall Festival, and to help with gardening and other office duties.
Animal Birth Control Clinic
Work as a technician's assistant, help as an office assistant, or help with upgrading the computer systems and other technology-related projects.
Volunteers can be reading buddies, prepare educational materials, photocopy, do backyard work, do minor building repairs, prepare lunch, answer phones, and help organize.
Meals and Wheels
Dishing up meals, delivering meals, and participating in group activities, Pet Food Program, Groceries to Go Program and Handyman Program
Big Brothers Big Sisters
Meet with a child just a few times a month to enjoy activities such as shooting hoops, playing board games, sharing a pizza, going for walks or just hanging out.
Texas Home Health Hospice
Volunteer duties may include visiting a patient in his/her home or nursing home, providing companionship to lonely and sometimes scared patients. Sometimes the patient likes to play a game of cards, or be read to. Sometimes duties include respite, which involves sitting with a patient while the full-time caregiver runs his/her own errands, etc. Other times we head-up activities at nursing homes, such as calling BINGO, painting nails, or helping at socials. We sometimes need to fulfill one-time requests, such as cutting/fixing a patient's hair, or doing minor home repairs.
Help in the food pantry, warehouse, or in the resale store.
Waco Arts Initiative
Volunteers are needed to work as a mentor to a student, helping to achieve his/her artistic goals through music, theatre, or visual arts.
City of Waco Cameron Park Zoo
Work directly with the animals, plants and zoo visitors in areas such as education and conservation.
City of Waco Wetlands Workday
General cleanup of the wetlands
Communities in Schools
Spend one hour a week mentoring a child at an elementary, middle or high school campus; Waco Center For Youth; or Klaras Center For Families.
MCC Adult Education Programs
Volunteer tutors are needed in the areas of General Educational Development (GED), English as a Second Language (ESL), Basic Literacy, and Enrichment.
Compassion Ministries
Assist in a variety of ways, including supervising and tutoring children, developing and reviewing individual budgets, discussing employment with clients, preparing apartments for new families, and helping with office work or special events.
Mission Waco
Assist directly with children, youth and adults in areas such as tutoring, mentoring, meals and cleanup, office tasks, GED, or other activities and projects. Contact Mission Waco or visit its volunteer website for more information.
Family Abuse Center
Volunteers help with working the front desk, greeting guests, answering phones, as well as filing and mailings when needed.
Talitha Koum
Volunteers can give their time in a variety of ways, including playing with the children, administrative assistance, working with the swimming pool program, grounds upkeep and tutoring. Visit the Talitha Koum volunteer website for details.
Fuzzy Friends Rescue
Work directly with animals in areas such as cleaning, exercising, grooming, adoptions, foster care and especially for socialization. Volunteers may help in non-animal work in areas such as data entry, maintenance and office organization. Off-site volunteering is also available for special events and fundraisers, and may involve presentations to schools and community groups, assisting with decorations, or writing articles. The Salvation Army
Volunteers can assist in a variety of ways including helping with food drives, disaster services, office assistance, serving holiday meals or meals at the Community Kitchen, helping in the Family Store/ Warehouse, and more.
Habitat for Humanity
Give time in a variety of ways, including helping with construction of houses or wheelchair ramps, translating from English to Spanish at application meetings, providing lunch for 15-20 volunteers, or joining the Family Selection or Family Support committees. Volunteers can also help at the ReStore, a building materials recycling center, as sales assistants, cashiers, warehouse assistants, and more. Therapeutic Riding Center
Volunteers are needed to lead the horse, walk beside the horse to assist the student, as a stable hand, and in other areas.
Humane Society of Central Texas
Assist in a variety of ways, including dog walking, dog training, socializing the animals, cleaning cages, grooming, helping with adoptions, administrative tasks, taking pictures of pets and uploading to Petfinder, creating flyers, landscaping, maintenance, and more.
Good Neighbor Waco
A Christian non-profit organization, is seeking singles or married couples to serve an average of 7-10 hours per week in exchange for partially subsidized rent.
