The Employee Wellness Program supports the physical, mental, and overall well-being of our faculty and staff by providing accessible opportunities for movement, stress management, preventive care, and healthy lifestyle support. Spring 2026 On-Campus Wellness Classes

All classes are free for employees, open to all fitness levels, and employees may drop in as schedules allow.

Session Dates: January 12, 2026 – April 30, 2026

Class Time: 4:15–5:00 p.m.

Primary Location: Math/Wellness & Fitness Building – Racquetball Courts

Featured Class: Gentle Tai Chi & Qigong

We are thrilled to introduce a brand-new class this spring led by Alex Sanchez, a highly experienced instructor specializing in mindful movement and holistic wellness. This gentle, meditative class is a wonderful option for stress reduction, balance, mobility, and relaxation.

Instructor Information: Alex Sanchez has over a decade of experience guiding students in mindful movement and holistic wellness. He is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 500) with Yoga Alliance and holds third-degree black belts in Hapkido and Jujitsu. For the past eight years, he has taught Tai Chi, creating classes that are accessible, supportive, and appropriate for all levels.

Weekly Schedule:

  • Monday: Gentle Tai Chi & Qigong – Slow, flowing movements with breathing and mindful awareness to support balance, mobility, stress reduction, and gentle strength. Beginner-friendly.
  • Tuesday: Basic Weights – Intro to weight training using hand-held weights to build strength and endurance. Includes abdominal work and stretching. Beginner-friendly.
  • Wednesday: Yoga for Office Workers – Designed for those who sit or drive for long periods. Focuses on stretching the back, neck, shoulders, hips, and hip flexors while supporting stress reduction. All levels.
  • Thursday: Body Shape Up – Full-body workout using resistance bands to build strength and flexibility. Includes abdominal work and stretching. Beginner-friendly.

Employees may drop in as schedules allow. When available, please register through Professional Development courses to help us anticipate attendance and plan accordingly.

Before Attending On-Campus Classes

Employees using wellness release time must complete the Wellness Request Form and submit it to Human Resources each semester.

Please note:

  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement and closed-toe shoes
  • Bring your MCC ID, water bottle, and a small towel
  • Drop-ins are welcome; when possible, registration through Professional Development is appreciated

Virtual Fitness & Mindfulness Sessions

Employees may also participate in free virtual fitness and mindfulness sessions offered through the State of Texas wellness programming. Sessions are led by certified fitness instructors who are also state employees and support physical activity, stress management, and overall well-being.

Offerings include:

  • Fitness and movement classes
  • Stretching, flexibility, and yoga
  • Chair fitness options
  • Core, strength, and toning sessions
  • Mindfulness and motivation sessions

Many sessions are 15–30 minutes, offered live, with many recordings available.

Employees who are unable to attend on-campus class times may be eligible for a discounted Fitness Program through the HealthSelect plan.

Weight Room Hours - Spring 2026

The Weight Room is ALSO available Monday–Friday, 6 a.m.–7 p.m. for MCC employees.

To get started:

  • Complete the liability waiver in Etrieve (Police Department tab—Weight Room Waiver).
  • Wait for confirmation (please allow up to 72 hours).
  • Access requires your MCC badge and an authorized MCC buddy (your buddy must also have a completed waiver).
