Welcome to MCC's Associate Degree Nursing Program!

MCC's two-year Associate Degree Nursing program prepares students to become registered nurses (RNs).  You'll learn how to give patient-centered care in hospitals and other health care agencies.

The program accepts new students each fall and spring. Class sizes are limited, and spots fill up fast.  Not counting prerequisites, the program takes two academic years to finish.

You'll get both classroom learning and real clinical experience.  When you're done, you'll be ready to take the NCLEX-RN - the exam you need to become a licensed registered nurse, as required by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Current LVNs may apply for advance placement.  Special requirements apply - see the link below.

Mission

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program prepares graduates to work safely and effectively as entry-level members of the health care team.

When you finish the program - including general education and nursing courses - you earn an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree.  You can stop there or keep going and earn a bachelor's degree in nursing.  MCC faculty support lifelong learning and career growth as part of your education.

Next Steps & Support

Students who are thinking about nursing ("pre-nursing") should contact Advising & Career Services located on the 2nd floor of the Student Services Center.  You can also meet with an advisor via Zoom.  For advising hours, please visit mclennan.edu/advising/.

Course approval will be completed for students who are currently enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program after final grades are entered each semester.

Criminal Background Notice

A criminal background may prevent you from getting a nursing license in Texas.  If you have questions, talk to your instructor or program director.  You also have the right to request a criminal history evaluation letter from the licensing agency.

Licensing in Other States

MCC's ADN and LVN-Transition programs meet the education requirements for a Registered Nurse License in Texas.  MCC has not confirmed whether these programs meet the requirements in other states, U.S. territories, or Washington, D.C.

Allow approximately 90 days to process of out-of-state licensure documents.
