Media Sanitization | MP-6

Description

Texas Government Code §441.187 Destruction of State Records and Texas Administrative Code §6.95 Final Disposition of Electronic State Records defines requirements related to records retention and disposal that apply to MCC.

The following media sanitization controls apply to all MCC Information resources that are leaving the custody of MCC, whether or not the media is considered removable.

  • The removal or destruction of electronic media must be documented. The documentation will include the following information:
    • Description of the item(s). If applicable, this should include the identification number(s) (e.g. serial number, or inventory number).
    • If applicable, the name of the organization the equipment was transferred to.
  • Prior to the destruction of any media, the Information Resource Owner or their designee should be consulted and reminded that media sanitization is not reversible. Owners or their designee are responsible for making a copy of any information that needs to be retained to another MCC information resource before media is sanitized.
