Dear Employees,

I hope you have enjoyed the Winter break, and I wish you a happy and safe 2021. I am sending you a short update from the EOC meeting held today with the VPs, Frank Patterson, Lisa Elliott, and me.

We remain on schedule to return to campus on Monday, January 4, and we will resume in Phase 5 of our “Return to Campus Plan” upon our return. As planned, classes will begin on Monday, January 11. With that said, we will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as needed.

I am sure you have heard on the news about the COVID-19 vaccine being available in Texas, and I encourage you to reach out to your healthcare provider for more information and to visit the Texas Department of State Health Services website for the most up-to-date information: https://www.dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus/immunize/vaccine.aspx With the information we know, employees will be encouraged, but not required, to vaccinate. I personally plan to receive the vaccine when it is available to me.

To promote healthy behaviors on campus, I ask that you continue to practice safety protocols as outlined on our COVID-19 website. These steps will help us to remain safe and to keep the campus open:

  • Make sure you wear a face covering and that you are wearing it properly when around people you don’t live with and when in public. (Policy E-XXXXI)
  • Practice social distancing at all times.
  • Avoid large gatherings.
  • Practice good hand hygiene.
  • Self-Assess your health this weekend before returning to campus on Monday as well as every day before coming to work.
  • Remember, if you exhibit any COVID-19 symptoms or have been in contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19, please fill out the form on McLennan’s self-reporting portal.
  • If you have been in contact with someone with the virus or if you have symptoms of the virus or COVID-like symptoms, please remember to stay at home to protect your fellow employees and students. This is very important.

All of us on the Leadership Team are hopeful for a continuing improved environment in 2021. If you have any questions about your personal situation or any college plans, you may email covid19@mclennan.edu, visit our COVID-19 website, or consult with any of us on the Leadership Team or Missy Kittner in Human Resources.

Finally, thank you again for helping keep McLennan a safe working and learning environment. We cannot do this without you. We all do care about you individually and also know that fears still exist, but we can absolutely do this together. Enjoy the rest of your holiday and have a nice, safe New Year’s. I look forward to welcoming you back to campus on January 4.

Sending best wishes for safety for you, your families, and your friends,

Johnette McKown
President
