Hello Students,

In just a week, we will begin what will be a unique year. We are committed to helping you be successful, and we have many resources for you.

Last week, we updated you on what to expect with your classes. This week, we want to update you on what you can expect as far as student services for the Fall 2020 semester. All of our services will be provided both on campus and online.  Students can receive all of the same services from the Success Coaches, Advising & Career Services, Accommodations, Counseling Services, and all of the other offices by visiting them either on campus or online.  Additionally, Paulanne’s Pantry has remained opened throughout the pandemic and is a free food pantry open to all McLennan and University Center students.  The campus resource guide can help you with all of the ways McLennan Community College can assist you.

If you have financial concerns during this time, we encourage you to talk with the Financial Aid Office to ensure we are doing everything possible to assist you.  The McLennan Community College Foundation also offers an emergency grant program for students who encounter extraordinary events or circumstances that could negatively affect their ability to continue their studies.  You can review all of the information about the resource on the Emergency Grant webpage.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused us to adjust other services on campus, including our food service and shuttle service. We will be providing grab and go items, bottled/canned drinks, and snack options in the Highlander Café (in the Learning Technology Center), Tartan Café (in the Community Services Center), and the Thistle Stop (in the Michaelis Academic Center).  We will also have a rotation of area food trucks that will provide breakfast and lunch options on campus, with a calendar to come soon.

Shuttle services have been modified to only provide services from one point on the main campus to one point at the Community Service Center.  The location on the main campus will be at the vending machines at the Student Services Center, and the location at the Community Services Center will be by the fountain between the E & F wings.  Two shuttles will be running with limited passengers to allow for social distancing.  The ADA-shuttle will still be available for assisting students at all locations on campus.

Don’t forget to get your free bus pass with Waco Transit’s public bus system.  This is available for all McLennan Community College and University Center students.  Bus passes are available in the Business Office, and you can see all the details of this program at the Bus Pass webpage.

The McLennan Community College custodial staff will be sanitizing classrooms and common spaces on a daily basis to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.  We all must do our part by wearing our face coverings, following social distancing guidelines, and practicing good hand hygiene and cough etiquette.  Later this week, we will provide you with more information about the safety measures we have put in place for on campus activities.

For more information about all of our efforts to prepare for the Fall 2020 semester and our general response to the COVID-19 pandemic, visit the MCC & COVID-19 webpage. Please ask any questions that you may have; we are here for you.  You may send general questions to covid19@mclennan.edu or you may contact a specific department. Together, we will help you reach your educational goals during this unprecedented time.
