What to Expect on Campus


McLennan’s Safety Practices to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Please Note: Face-to-face classes for the Fall 2020 semester have been adjusted to a blended format, which means half of the instruction will be in the classroom and the rest will be taught online.

Students should continue to check their student email (ending in students.mclennan.edu) and BrightSpace for information from professors regarding the scheduling of in-person versus online classes for the blended format classes. A training document is available to help students understand the measures taken on campus to create a safe environment and to train you on safety practices. Please review the Safe Practices during COVID-19 Pandemic document. 

  • Cleaning & Disinfecting
    • Custodial services have implemented new cleaning protocols in accordance with CDC guidelines including daily use of an Electrostatic Sprayer with disinfecting spray that lightly mists all surfaces of rooms. Notify the Physical Plan with any concerns about cleaning practices (254-299-8843).
    • Custodial staff are routinely cleaning frequently touched surfaces (e.g., doorknobs, light switches, countertops) with approved EPA cleaners containing 80% alcohol.
    • All individuals are required to practice good handwashing techniques.
    • Public hand sanitizing dispensers are available throughout the campus.
    • Students, faculty, and staff should wipe down all work surfaces including tables and desks in classrooms and study areas before and after each use with the sanitzing wipes provided.
  • Food Services
    • Grab & Go items, bottled/canned drinks, and snack options are available in MCC's Highlander Cafe (in the Learning Technology Center), Tartan Cafe (in the Community Services Center), and the Thistle Stop (in the Michaelis Academic Center). 
    • A rotation of area food trucks will be on campus daily. See the Food Truck Schedule for details.
    • Water Fountains are closed across campus but Water Bottle Filling Stations can be found in these building: Math, Wellness & Fitness; Music & Theatre Arts; Business Technology; Ball Performing Arts Center; Learning Technology Center; Administration; and Student Services Center.
  • Campus Shuttle Service
    • Shuttle service is available with two designated pick-up and drop-off locations: Student Services Center (SSC) by the vending machines and the Community Services Center (CSC) by the fountain between Wings E & F.
    • Two shuttles are available: one shuttle is limited to 3 passengers and the ADA-shuttle is limited to 1-2 passengers. 
    • Hand sanitizer and wipes are available on both shuttles. Also, plexi-glass will be installed behind the driver. All passengers must wear a face mask. 
  • Daily Health Self-Assessments
    • Conduct a self-assessment of your exposure daily.
    • This assessment is based on guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Texas Department of State Health Services. 
    • If you are exhibiting any symptoms on the self-assessment or have been in contact with someone suspected of having COVID-19, please utilize this form to voluntarily disclose to McLennan administration.
  • Face Coverings - see Policy E-XXXXI
    • All students, employees, visitors, and independent contractors on the campus are required to wear a face covering when in the presence of others and in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
    • Face coverings may include store-bought masks, homemade masks, scarves, bandanas, a handkerchief, or a face shield.
    • Face coverings must be worn over the nose and cover the mouth.
    • Face coverings must be worn in common areas including classrooms, lobbies, labs, lounges, dining halls (except when eating), hallways, elevators, and common area bathrooms.
    • Requests for accommodations or exemptions will be made on a case-by-case basis through Human Resources (employees) or Accommodations Services (students).
  • Social Distancing
    • Face-to-face instruction has resumed with physical/social distancing practices strictly enforced.
    • Maintain at least 6-feet of separation from other individuals.
    • Each building or room has a posted maximum occupancy sign.
    • Furniture has been rearranged to allow for proper physical/social distancing.
    • Classes are smaller in size to help maintain physical/social distancing.
  • Safety Measures
    • Practice hand hygiene, cough etiquette, cleanliness and sanitation when physical/social distancing is not feasible. See the CDC's reference to Hygiene Etiquette & Practice
    • Individuals in face-to-face meetings including classes are expected to wear a face covering (See face covering above.)
    • Minimize the use of others’ phones, devices, tools, and equipment.
  • Elevators & Stairs
    • Campus elevators will be limited to handicapped use only or one individual at a time.
