Beyond Go-Live: MFA Recap
Beyond Go-Live: MFA Recap
September 3, 2025
TLDR (Too Long; Didn't Read)
Key points:
- Accessing MCC systems, like Brightspace, now requires MFA which secures your account.
- 11,575 users enrolled with 117,000 successful logins. Duo Push is the top MFA method.
- To set up MFA or add a backup MFA method, login to Duo Devices and follow the prompts. For instructions, see IT Hub: Setup Duo on your MCC Account or IT Hub: Add Additional or Alternative Authentication Methods to your Account.
- Over half of MCC employees (50%) are still using Windows 10 — and time is running out. After October 14, 2025, Windows 10 will no longer receive security updates, putting your device and MCC systems at risk. Devices running Windows 10 may be restricted from accessing the college network after the deadline. Act now to avoid disruptions: Log in to the IT Hub and upgrade to Windows 11.
TLDR END
McLennan Community College’s campus-wide Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) rollout is now complete. MFA is required for access to MCC systems like Brightspace, ensuring stronger protection for accounts and data.
Why is Matters
MFA significantly reduces the risk of account compromise by requiring more than just a password. This extra layer of security aligns MCC with higher education, cybersecurity, and best practices while helping us build a safer, more resilient campus environment.
MFA by the Numbers
Since the implementation of MFA, we have reached the following milestones:
- 11,575 users enrolled (10,689 students and 886 employees)
- 117,000 successful MFA logins since launch
- Authentication Choice:
- 43% Duo Push (recommended)
- 41% phone call
- 16% Other (platform authentication, hardware token, etc.)
Student & Staff Support
The Cybersecurity Team:
- Operated three mobile Tech Support stations from August 18–28 for AM and PM sessions, assisting with MFA and other tech issues.
- Worked with Library services to help successfully enroll over 90 La Vega dual credit students in MFA.
Help Desk Impact
Despite MFA being a major change, Duo-related issues made up only 22% of Help Desk tickets (540 out of 2,975).
Enrollment emails are no longer required. Log in to Duo Devices and follow the on-screen prompts. You can also add a backup MFA method, in the Duo Devices portal, to avoid lockouts if your primary device is lost, replaced, or unavailable.
For detailed instructions, see:

MFA Project Summary
Your participation has made this rollout a success. By enrolling in MFA, you are protecting your own account while contributing to the security of our entire campus community. Together, we have taken a major step towards keeping MCC secure, resilient, and ready for the future.
