Kim Rooney Hagelstein

Dr. Kim Rooney Hagelstein is Assistant Professor of Music at McLennan Community College, where her responsibilities include teaching Applied Horn, Brass Ensembles, and Music Appreciation courses. Prior to joining the MCC faculty full-time in 2025, Dr. Hagelstein served part-time as Adjunct Instructor of Horn and Brass Ensembles at MCC for nine years.

Beginning in 2009, Dr. Hagelstein served on the faculty of Tarleton State University for 16.5  years, where she taught horn lessons and a variety of other courses. Under Dr. Hagelstein's leadership, the Tarleton Horn Choir performed at regional and international horn symposia, as a showcase ensemble at TMEA, and at many high schools and community venues. She has also served on the applied faculties of Texas A&M University - Central Texas and Temple College. Many of her students have won state and regional competitions, been accepted into elite graduate and undergraduate programs, and succeeded in performance and teaching careers.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Hagelstein performs regularly as Second Horn of the Waco Symphony Orchestra and Principal Horn of the Temple Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Hagelstein has performed and recorded both domestically and abroad with groups including the Lone Star Wind Orchestra, Eurobrass, the Carl Rosa Opera Company, and the New Sigmund Romberg Orchestra. As a soloist, Dr. Hagelstein has performed with the Lone Star Wind Orchestra, the McLennan Community College Wind Ensemble, the Tarleton State University Wind Ensemble, the University of Missouri University Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Liberty Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Hagelstein studied at the University of Missouri-Columbia and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where her primary teachers included Randy Gardner and Marcia Spence.
