MCC’s Alternative Teacher Certification program receives SBEC Commendations

March 20, 2023

McLennan Community College’s Alternative Teacher Certification program was the only program in the state to receive the Rigorous and Robust Preparation Commendation from the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC).

Commendations are awarded based on surveys conducted by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) sent to school principals on the campuses of every first-year teacher in the state. Principals rated 95% of first-year teachers prepared at MCC as “sufficiently or well prepared” across the following categories: Planning, Instruction, Learning Environment, Professional Practices/Responsibilities, Teaching Students with Disabilities, and Teaching Emergent Bilingual students.

“We are proud of the work we are doing to prepare highly effective teachers,” said Program Director Laura Conrad. “We also value our partnerships with local school districts to support our teacher candidates throughout the first year of teaching.”
